Most people believe that in Alaska, a name derived from an Aleut word meaning "land that is not an island" is simply tundra in the middle of nowhere because of its distance from the lower 48 States, and since most of the stories they heard from are usually related to the cold and the snow and the so-called vast spacesdesolate, open. But you thought wrong.

Alaska - the largest state (by land mass) is also one of the least populated - is a land that combines the beautiful snowy scenery of the Alps with the challenge of an adventure trip to the Congo.

River Fishing

When someone mentions Alaska, people usually visualize a land of ice and frozen dessert. So it's a bit hard to imagine people being able to fish in such a place. But like I mentioned earlier, Alaska is a place filled with adventure, a place well worth traveling to.

For your Alaska fishing adventure, you can try your luck at hooking any of a variety of prized fish like: Silver Salmon in Resurrection Bay during August and September, the King Salmon of the Lower Kenai River from May to July or Red (Sockeye) Salmon, Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout in the Upper Kenai River.

Rafting

Yes, you can raft to your hearts' content and pretend you're a lone wanderer having an adventure in the midst of the vast array of Alaskan wildlife. Travel and encounter the many natural wonders of Alaska. Listen to the stories of the natives. Catch a glimpse of moose and bald eagles as you hold on for dear life while traversing the rapids of Kenai River Canyon - a trip that is highly recommended and one that you don't want to miss.

Backpacking

This is an adventure you must grab because there's virtually nothing that compares to backpacking in Alaska. You can of course choose your own adventure travel destination: Brooks Range, Artic Refuge, Talkeetna Mountains, and Wrangell-St. Elias to name just a few.

Sea Kayaking

This not so common adventure is one that only traveling to Alaska can bestow upon you. This is not for the faint of heart and make sure, that you don't attempt this alone.

Expeditions to Walrus Island

So you haven't seen any of those furry adorable creatures up close? Find yourself aching for more of a marine adventure rather than a landlocked one? Or perhaps you're content to simply watch. Have no fear because Alaska's Walrus Island has it all. You can view walrus, other marine mammals and rare bird species from the comfortable deck of a cruising yacht. But if you want a bit more of a challenge, you can take a hiking trip and see more of the Alaskan wildlife.

Dog Sledding

This is probably the most popular sport in Alaska and an adventure worth telling your grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, barber or whoever will listen. If you so choose, you can simply watch the dog sled races or try it out yourself by mushing your own team. The Siberian huskies, are highly trained so there's no need to worry about your safety. Plus, if you have the time, you can also visit the renowned author, husky owner and Alaskan original Mary Shields.

Fjord Exploration

If you've ever dreamed of experiencing the sheer scale of an honest-to-goodness glacier that the pages of a book or movie screen just can't convey then Alaska is the place to be? Unless, of course you prefer Greenland or Iceland for your icy adventure. I think not... and just another of many reasons why we should be thankful for the great State of Alaska.

So... are you now convinced that traveling to Alaska is an adventure that you must not miss? I sure hope so because if you're not - what's wrong with you. Just kidding, however before making reservations be sure you've got everything you need like clothes for wide range of temperatures and a comfortable pair of hiking boots.

And clearly... compare the available travel packages being offered by the travel agencies that cater to Alaska or you can make your own travel itinerary and then simply hire a guide to assist you along the way. A great place to start planning your trip is Alaska - The Last Frontier. A website dedicated to being a complete resource on Alaska.

If you are looking for adventure tourism in southern Arizona. This dry area has been inhabited by humans for a long time. The time made it difficult if not impossible for the area to be more populated. Making the adventurer in all of us to smile. There are stories of lost gold mines, cowboy and a desert that stretches for miles and miles.

Southern Arizona are really off the beaten path. Traveled by dirt road to reach the mountains of superstition which is an area of desert and mountain seems to continue forever. Walk a little and you can come up with the Lost Dutchman mine. The story goes that a miner brought millions of dollars of gold mountain, never returned to the area, and died before telling a living thing at the mine site.

Located near Yuma, wooden cannon is located at 8,000 feet and is a great way for trees of the desert hiking. You can get very cold in this lift and I would recommend hiking here during the summer months.

Ghost towns in southern Arizona can get your imagination running are full of history and fun for adults and children. If you have children Memorial creates a memory that will not forget his family. Actors replace the train of 1900 of Wells Fargo train robbery. It is a little cheeezy for adults but kids love. Fairbanks is a real village ghost last lived here in 1970. Fairbanks was once a bustling mining town, next to the San Pedro River, in southern Arizona.

This city is bordered by grass and mesquite forest and walks around the perimeter will give you a look back to the Spaniards. There are the remains of their settlements here as well. Nature Conservancy considers this a great place and worth a visit.

Good vineyards of southern Arizona can be found here with the flourishing grapes in the elevation of 5,000-6,000 in Salim-Elgin area. Produce a good man came local Petit Verdot there has tasting rooms. There are 39 wineries licensed in Arizona. This area reminds me of the Napa Valley 35 years and is a paradise for wine lovers. The busiest period of the year is during the week of Thanksgiving.

Vacation adventure companies, find a suitable for you

Vacation adventure companies, find a suitable for you

For most of us, the time of book, plan and execute a holiday adventure, while giving our busy lives is impossible border, reason why we have holiday adventure companies to do it for us. With this in mind how one know which company to choose? Adventure holidays are high-risk ventures, of course, opting for an agent simply because it has the lowest prices perhaps it is not the best idea.

The first thing which I recommend is to ask around. Perhaps you know of someone who has traveled overseas with the aid of an adventure company, one that they speak highly of and recommend. If you don't know of someone whom you can ask then try looking around the internet or sign up to a website forum such as the Lonely Planet forum to ask for advice. Be sure to make your requests from several sources as although the majority of members who participate in website forum discussions do so out of their good will, there are always the small percentage who may be recommending 3rd party companies for commission.

Another idea is to call your local travel agents and ask if they have any recommendations for you. Travel agents take a large amount of commission but only if you use them to make bookings, their wealth of information is free until this point. Call them up or even better if you have time visit them during your lunch break and ask about their adventure holiday options. Also request any pamphlets and fliers they may have as almost always these will have website addresses written on them. This is one of my preferred options as very few travel agents would risk using 2nd rate adventure companies for chance of ruining their reputation within the industry. Be warned though, that prices may be significantly higher when using a big company.

Alternatively, you could just not do any planning at all and just land in your location of choice, unknown to what you will do, see or achieve. Use reviews from travel guides for smaller travel agencies within the places you wish to visit and just travel there however be sure that you have a quality travel insurance cover if you wish to do this!

In conclusion, whichever method you choose you should always remember to trust your instincts, if you feel like someone is getting the better of you then they probably are.

Adventure Holiday Companies - Booking and Preparing for Your Trip

Adventure Holiday Companies - Booking and Preparing for Your Trip

Adventure Holiday Companies - Booking and Preparing for Your Trip

A safe, fun and memorable adventure holiday is becoming an increasingly popular way to spend vacation these days and the possibilities are endless. You can undertake the adventure on a solo journey, bring your spouse along or even take the whole family. Almost all adventures you could think of are available in some form or another, such options can include sailing a small yacht across the Mediterranean sea, riding ATV's through Kakadu National Park in the Australian outback, renting a deserted island from local indigenous people off the coast of Panama or hiking to the Lost City in the jungles of Colombia. Of course, none of these options would be as safe as visiting Disneyland but by undergoing a little preparation and following several guidelines risks can be brought to a minimum, allowing you to return home and spend the next few months bragging about your adventure to your relatives, friends and colleagues - with every right to do so.

Adventure Holiday Companies - Booking and Preparing for Your Trip

Booking your adventure holiday can seem like a daunting task at first, with so many things to consider. One has to worry about company reputation and whether they follow necessary stringent procedures in order to make your trip not only safe but enjoyable. Being squashed into an overcrowded minivan for 8 hours on the mountainous peruvian roads is no fun and not worth saving a few dollars, believe me.

Adventure Holiday Companies - Booking and Preparing for Your Trip

Ideally your booking should be made through a larger recognized company which must protect it's reputation, as opposed to smaller companies whose issues may fly under the radar as they are not well established. Any company you do choose, make sure to perform a Google search and look for people's reviews to find out about how their experiences were. Unfortunately there are a large amount of shady characters in this industry so 'winging it' is just not a good idea.

Planning your trip should be fun, this is actually one of my favourite parts of travel. I love using tools such as Google Maps and Google Earth, viewing photos of certain locations on Flickr and reading about other peoples experiences on web forums. These are all great ways to know what to expect upon arrival and also, if visiting a 3rd world country it's a fantastic way to familiarise yourself with many common scams, such as taxi drivers overcharging foreigners or people exchanging false local bills for your currency. Ask lots and lots of questions, you will be surprised at what you learn, not only about location but also which gear to bring or which airline is best.

Also, something which I view as a necessity is an insurance policy but be careful, these can become very expensive very quickly! Know exactly which activities you will undertake and create your policy specifically for these however allow yourself the ability to include more during your trip in case you encounter something you wish to do at a later date. Compare prices with other companies, don't necessarily use the insurance offered by your adventure holiday company as they receive a large amount of commission.
